Seacook obituary, once more

FLAT GROUNDS, NY: How long, how long to sing this song?

It was a familar scene in Locker Room #2, the 33-year-old Elijah Banker sitting in front of a card table, on a folding chair, the media vultures in front of him.  Asking him of his fear: "As one more year ticks by, how distant does the championship seem?"  There are no answers and will be no answers until the fateful day.

And then there was Ken Thatcher, losing to the team he left in 2010, getting his first taste of the aforementioned vultures.

The team moves to a beautiful, 69,000 seat venue in the far-more-urban Hempstead in 2014.  Banker will be 34 and will have two years remaining on a 6-year, $105 million contract.  Any cursory look at the simple numbers would suggest it's been well worth it: the "Computer MVP" placed Banker second among ESFL players in 2013, behind only North Bay QB Anibal Gonzalez, his third top-three finish in his four years as a Seacook.  Yet the big game eludes him.
